一九二九年秋，徐悲鸿为了北平艺专曾三次登门邀请白石老人，希望他到学校教书。最后齐白石答应了，条件是：上课可以不讲，就坐在那里做示范；一节课四块钱，三节课连上。三四一十二，十二块钱。
每到上课的日子，齐先生就坐在自备的黄包车过去。齐先生的黄包车外面有个青布幔子，幔子上写着白字“齐宅”。老先生头戴一顶毡帽，帽顶缝一个大红球。手持藤杖，鞋上还缝个小铜铃，出门时发出叮咚、叮咚的铃声响。
学校的女学生一听到铃铛响，心里暗叫一声：“哎呀！妈呀！财神爷来了”。
女生们蜂拥而出，扶的扶，搀的搀。老人满脸堆笑，当走到萧琼前，伸手掐一下她的小脸蛋，问：“你爸爸在家吗？”———该学生的父亲是萧龙友，北京城内四大名医之一。萧琼回答：“去天津了。”“告诉你爸，过两天我去看他。”随后齐先生又和别的女孩子问东问西，闲聊个没完，当他走进教室时，已经过去了半个多小时。
我们男学生因为受到冷遇，心里不平衡，低声向女学生喊话“半袋面粉没有了”，因那时一袋面粉四元钱。
齐先生迈步走进教室张望一下，见课桌上纸已铺好，墨也研好，就拿了一支大斗笔醮墨，但不画，又开始闲聊。女生围着桌子两三圈，把我们男生挤在外层。齐先生问问这个女孩子，又问问那个女孩子，一个钟头过去了，才画了一个像大萝卜一样的东西，同学们都不知道画的是什么，只见他又取了小笔，信手勾几笔，原来是一只雄鹰，同学们又拍掌叫好。
隔壁是西画科的教室，我们的声音引得隔壁老师学生跑来围观，他们感到很奇怪，上课怎么还拍巴掌？
齐先生让女孩子把画挂在墙上，半天不吭声，然后才添松枝。同学争着说：“齐老师给我题款呀。”他说：“题款就不够本了。”老人家心里明白，薪资一共才十二元，抵不上一张画。半天勉强画了两张画，都不题款。
得了画的女孩子高兴极了。她们想出了一个点子，过两、三天拿着画去齐家，说：“齐老师，我们来看你了。”于是出示画件：“齐老师给我们题上款呀!”
齐白石摇摇头，这时上去两三个女孩子逮住他的左右手，另一个拿笔舐墨说：“你题不题？”齐先生无可奈何，笑着说：“好，好，我题，我题。”放开他的右手，左手还逮着，题了款，还得盖章。白石老人不肯盖。
女孩子们就到处找图章，齐白石的图章很多，有二百多方，找到几方，白石老人见了摇摇头，忙说那些图章不能用，用嘴呶一呶，指指抽屉里。打开抽屉，同学们在一张画上盖了六七个图章。“齐老师，我们走了，过几天再来看你。”
老人家捋着胡子，目送几个女孩子的身影，两眼眯成一条线，甜甜地笑着。我的女同学收藏着齐先生的一些画，那都是精品！

1、善写意者专言其神，工写生者只重其形。要写生而后写意，写意而后复写生，自能神形俱见，非偶然可得也。
2、学我者生，似我者死。勿道人之短，勿说己之长；人骂之一笑，人誉之一笑。

4、人欲骂之，余勿听也；人欲誉之，余勿喜也。
5、似者媚俗，不似者欺世，妙在似与不似之间。
6、寿高未死羞为贼，不辞长安作恶饕。
7、莫羡牡丹称富贵，却输梨橘有余甘。
8、任君无厌千回剥，转觉临风遍体轻。
9、我是学习人家，不是摹仿人家，学的是笔墨精神，不管外形像不像。
10、我绝不画我没见过的东西。
11、欲立艺者，先立人。
12、作画先阅古人真迹过多，然后脱前人习气别造画格。乃前人所不为者，虽没齿无人知，自问无愧也。清逸，不慕名利，方可从事于画。见古今之长，摹而肖之能不夸，师法有所短，舍之而不诽，然后再现天地之造化。如此腕底自有鬼神。
13、画中要常有古人之微妙在胸中，不要古人之皮毛在笔端。欲使来者只能摹其皮毛，不能知其微妙也。立足如此，纵无能空前，亦足绝后。学古人，要学到恨古人不见我，不要恨时人不知我耳。
