捕食者（Predator）是一种“中空、长航时”的作战系统。除了侦察，也可以携带两枚AGM-114地狱火反坦克导弹直接进行打击。机长8.27米，翼展14.87米，最大活动半径3700公里，最大飞行时速240公里，在目标上空留空时间24小时，最大续航时间60小时。
该机装有光电/红外侦察设备、GPS导航设备和具有全天候侦察能力的合成孔径雷达，在4000公尺高处分辨率 为0.3米，对目标定位精度0.25米。
直接发射地狱火反坦克导弹，执行打击任务。绝大多数情况下，操作者并不在当地，甚至是在万里之外的美国本土，通过卫星链路进行通信。
捕食者设计之初，就考虑到方便未来的战场使用，可以拆分成几大部件，到现场组成成一体，需要战场DIY。
比较新型的捕食者单价根据配置的不同，单价已经超过4000万美元，但比起价格达到约1.8亿美元左右的F-15E打击鹰（2015价格），还是要便宜得多，而且续航时间长。

捕食者的侦察模块，飞机只是一个载体，里面不同的功能模块才反映技术水平。
机上的两色DLTV光学摄影机采用了955mm可变焦镜头。高分辨率的前视红外系统有6个可调焦距，最小为19mm，最大560mm。诺斯罗普·格鲁门公司的合成孔径雷达为“捕食者”提供了全天候监视能力，分辨率达到了0.3米精度。其他可选的载荷可按具体任务调整，包括激光指示和测距装置、电子对抗装置和运动目标指示器。
头上的鼓包里是锅一样的卫星天线，无人机的命名其实在通信，真的没人操作的话就成了没头苍蝇，只能按预定程序飞行。
