齐白石 杨柳山居图

齐白石的画以蔬菜、花卉居多，人物、山水只占老人创作的不到十分之一，山水画又是老人毕生创作最“惜墨如金”的。从中国艺术品市场的发展历程看，齐白石作品犹以山水画最为珍稀。

齐白石的山水画构图极简，且多有奇构，没有古人那些“平铺细抹死工夫”。齐白石于1919年在《老萍诗草》中说：

“山水画要无人所想得到处，故章法位置总要灵气往来，非前清名人苦心造作。山水笔要巧拙互用，巧则灵变，拙则浑古，合乎天趣。”

其章法、笔致、构成的妙趣，体现了他所说的“胸中山水奇天下，删去临摹手一双”的艺术追求。齐白石多作平远山水，笔力凝重沉郁，着色鲜艳单纯，意象奇特别致，风格浑厚清新。

齐白石的山水画，构图出奇出新，无常法而又合法，貌似平淡的笔调，大气磅礴、纯净明丽。在似与不似之间，把山水灵性的本质，或轻或重、或明或暗地表现出来，大开大合中又见细腻、朴素的善良与乐观的坚强。在白石老人的山水画中，每一笔似乎都含着家乡的泥土气息，每一根线条似乎都凝结着大自然的露珠，清新而华滋、深厚而通俗。有评论家指出，齐白石的“花鸟虫鱼非常突出地表现了他继承传统而又发扬了传统的特色，但是他的山水人物则是突破时代的创作”。

浓厚的乡土气息，纯朴的农民意识和天真浪漫的童心，富有余味的诗意，是齐白石艺术的内在生命，而那热烈明快的色彩，墨与色的强烈对比，浑朴稚拙的造型和笔法，工与写的极端合成，平正见奇的构成，作为齐白石独特的艺术语言和视觉形状，相对而言则是齐白石艺术的外在生命。现实的情感要求与之相适应的形式，而这形式又强化了情感的表现，两者相互需求、相互生发、相互依存，共同构成了齐白石的艺术生命，即齐白石艺术的总体风格。
