伦敦2023年11月17日 /美通社/ -- 今晚（11 月 16 日星期四），John Vaillant 创作的《Fire Weather: A True Story from a Hotter World》赢得 2023 年度 Baillie Gifford 非虚构类写作奖。得奖书籍在科学博物馆举办的颁奖典礼上正式宣布，且得到了 Blavatnik 家族基金会的慷慨赞助。
Fire Weather: A True Story from a Hotter World by John Vaillant is announced as the winner of the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction 2023 at a ceremony hosted at the Science Museum and generously supported by The Blavatnik Family Foundation.
《Fire Weather: A True Story from a Hotter World》讲述了 2016 年肆虐加拿大阿尔伯塔省 Fort McMurray 的破坏性山火事件。书中，John Valliant 深入探讨了石油工业与气候科学之间的相互关系，同时讲述了现代山火所带来的巨大破坏及其对受灾群众生活造成的负面影响。
Baillie Gifford 奖旨在表彰和激励最卓越的非虚构类作品，作者国籍不限。获奖者 Vaillant 将获得 5,0000 英镑。其他入围作者每人将获得 5,000 英镑，总奖金共计 75,000 英镑。
《Fire Weather: A True Story from a Hotter World》由今年的评审团选定：Frederick Studemann（主席）；Andrea Wulf、Arifa Akbar、Ruth Scurr、Tanjil Rashid 和 Andrew Haldane。评审团从 6 本入围书籍中选出这部作品。这些入围书籍从 265 部提交的作品中筛选而出，所有书籍均于 2022 年 11 月 1 日至 2023 年 10 月 31 日期间出版。
Blavatnik 家族基金会同时还为 Baillie Gifford 非虚构类写作奖的播客节目《READ SMART》提供赞助。该播客将于下周推出一期专门介绍 2023 年度获得者的专题节目。
