Sun Yeli, minister of culture and tourism of China, said today that foreign tourists traveling to China will surely enjoy the same conveniences as domestic tourists.
Sun Yeli talked about the payment issue of foreign travelers and said that a special coordination mechanism has been established to promote the solution of this issue.
"We are implementing it. The general principle is to swipe cards for large amounts, scan codes for small amounts, and pay in cash." Sun Yeli explained that the reason for swiping card is because foreigners are still accustomed to using credit cards. "POS services for credit card has not been used much for a while in China, but now we need to upgrade them. Make it more suitable for foreign tourists to use credit cards."
He said that the central government has put focus on solving the problem and the State Council has released a guideline earlier this month to include many practical measures to facilitate the payment of foreign travelers. He said that many hotels, airports and shopping malls in Shanghai have upgraded their POS services and Beijing is also stepping up efforts to upgrade the POS services.
"I believe that with the development of a series of policies, foreign tourists traveling to China will surely enjoy the same conveniences as domestic tourists in terms of food, accommodation, transportation and shopping." said Sun Yeli.
